Vail Health Foundation Celebrates Dedication of Precourt Healing Center

On March 13, 2025, Vail Health Foundation hosted a special dedication ceremony to honor the generosity of our benefactors and celebrate Vail Health’s new state-of-the-art inpatient facility. The Precourt Healing Center, located at the Edwards Community Health Campus, will begin welcoming patients in May 2025. It will serve as the only short-term psychiatric hospital between Denver and Salt Lake City, addressing a critical need for comprehensive behavioral health services in the region.

During the event, attendees had the opportunity to tour the facility and envision its transformative impact on patients. The Precourt Healing Center, which will provide a sanctuary for healing and growth for both adolescents and adults, represents the community’s investment in establishing an inpatient hospital in the Eagle River Valley.

Amanda Precourt, who serves on the Eagle Valley Behavioral Health Board and Vail Health Foundation Board said, “Mental health is not an individual issue. It is a community issue. With the opening of the Precourt Healing Center, our focus is to provide holistic and traditional clinical resources for treatment and prevention of acute behavioral health issues.”

“Before this facility, residents experiencing behavioral health crises had to travel two hours to Denver or Grand Junction for inpatient care if they could even find an available bed, separating them from their support systems during their most vulnerable moments,” said Vail Health Foundation President Dan Pennington. “Starting in May, we will finally bring an end to those difficult journeys.”

The center features three floors, 28 patient rooms with ensuite bathrooms, outdoor patios, activity spaces, fitness rooms, and more. This 50,000-square-foot facility was designed to offer a holistic approach to treatment, addressing mental, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual health with services in both English and Spanish. Patients experiencing mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, and co-morbid behavioral health challenges will receive 24-hour personalized care from a multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, licensed professional counselors, nurses, and alternative therapists.

Treatment cornerstones include art and music therapy, along with physical activity, complemented by nutritious, in-house meals, and patios offering access to the healing elements of fresh mountain air.

“The It Takes A Valley campaign embodies its name–it has taken all of us—community advocates, benefactors, clinicians, staff and administration, partner organizations, and many others—working together to reshape the behavioral health landscape in our valley,” said Dan Pennington. “We are extremely grateful to the late Jay Precourt and his daughter, Amanda, for their vision and transformational contributions.”

The Precourt Healing Center was dedicated in loving memory of Jay Precourt, who had served on both the Vail Health Hospital and Vail Health Foundation boards and was an honorary co-chair of the campaign.

Chris Lindley, Eagle Valley Behavioral Health Executive Director and Vail Health Chief Population Health Officer added, “The Precourt Healing Center will be a critical milestone in continuing our mission to elevate health across our mountain communities and is crucial in our battle against the behavioral health crisis in the state and our valley.”

Reflecting on her personal journey, Amanda Precourt said, “My wish is for those in our community who struggle to find hope in their darkest moments through the services provided at the Precourt Healing Center. I am certain the Precourt Healing Center will save many lives, inspiring hope for future generations.”
