A Conversation With Sara Dembeck
What drew you to nursing leadership?
I was drawn to leadership because it provides me with the opportunity to influence and support the entire healthcare team in delivering exceptional patient care. As a leader, I recognize the importance of shaping a culture where collaboration, respect, and excellence thrive. A strong culture empowers nurses to bring their best every day, which directly translates into better outcomes for patients and families. Also, a strong, supportive culture empowers nurses to grow, collaborate, and feel valued in their work, fostering an environment where they can thrive both personally and professionally.

Their clinical expertise and knowledge create a strong foundation for delivering the highest quality care to every patient. Additionally, their expertise is matched by an unwavering dedication to compassion, adaptability, and continuous improvement. The Nurse Excellence Fund, which is made possible through donations, provides continuing education, professional development, and recognition for nurses at Vail Health. Why is this investment so critical to patient care?
We are extremely grateful for the Nurse Excellence Fund and the generosity that makes it possible. Investing in nurses through education and professional development strengthens both the environment and the culture of excellence at Vail Health. Healthcare is constantly evolving, and ongoing learning ensures that our nurses remain leaders in best practices and innovation. Our organization faces a wide range of healthcare complexities, which makes it essential to provide nurses with ongoing education and training. Continuous learning keeps their skills sharp and their knowledge current, ensuring they are prepared to deliver the highest level of care in every situation. Recognition programs reinforce a culture where nurses feel valued and motivated, enhancing engagement and retention. When we invest in nurses, we’re not just improving skills—we’re cultivating a culture that prioritizes quality, safety, and compassionate care for every patient.
