Vail Health’s Behavioral Health Survey Seeks Community Responses

Vail Health’s biannual behavioral health survey is currently open for responses and is available to residents and workers aged 18 and older in Eagle County. A separate, similar survey is available for Summit County residents and employees, as well as eight other mountain resort communities.
This survey assesses behavioral health in Eagle and Summit counties, informing Vail Health’s allocation of funding for behavioral health programs. “It was really intended to be an investment in local mountain communities to help improve access to behavioral health resources,” said Dana Erpelding, Vail Health’s Vice President of Behavioral Health Operations. “The data is local and stays local to help organizations that are not affiliated with Vail Resorts make investments and make improvements in our local behavioral health infrastructure.”
Since 2020, in partnership with the Katz Amsterdam Foundation, the survey has helped ensure the effective distribution of resources. The Katz Amsterdam Foundation contributes about $500,000 annually to support behavioral health initiatives in Eagle County. Vail Health utilizes these funds to support local partners like My Future Pathways and RECONNECTED. “Historically, there has been a gap in substance use programs, especially around alcohol in our mountain community,” Dana noted. “The survey data has helped us allocate funding from both the Katz Amsterdam dollars and philanthropic contributions to start nonprofits like RECONNECTED.”
Survey results are expected to be released in spring or early summer 2026, providing valuable insights to inform the next two years of behavioral health care in Eagle County. The 2026 survey, which is open until February 7, can be taken at VailHealthBH.org/Encuesta-Comunitaria. Responses are recorded anonymously.
