Vail Health’s 16th Annual Hike, Wine & Dine Returns in September

Hike Wine & Dine Returns In September

Vail Health’s 16th annual Hike, Wine & Dine event is returning on Sunday, Sept. 29. The event aims to bring the community together for a day of outdoor adventure and gourmet delights, all to support the Vail Health Shaw Cancer Center and Jack’s Place, a cancer caring house.

Participants will embark on a family-friendly, 5-mile hike through a specially designated trail on Beaver Creek Mountain.

“This annual event offers participants a meaningful way to commemorate loved ones, especially on a special section of trail adorned with yellow ribbons in memory of those affected by cancer,” said Michelle Goodman, vice president of ambulatory and oncology services.

Now in its 16th year, Hike, Wine & Dine has raised more than $1.7 million to improve cancer care and provide a home away from home for patients and their families during treatment. In 2023, the Shaw Cancer Center’s Spirit of Survival program provided 5,447 patient experiences, offering patients and survivors free services including fitness, nutrition, physical therapy, psychosocial support, alternative therapies, special events, and wellness services.

Jack’s Place provides a respite at no cost for patients and their caregivers traveling to Shaw for cancer treatment. The center includes living areas, 12 guest rooms, a meditation room, a yoga studio, a massage center, a library and a garden. Since its inception in 2007, Jack’s Place has provided more than 20,000 nights of accommodations to patients of the Shaw Cancer Center.

Tasting stations featuring creative offerings from some of the community’s finest restaurants will be spread along the trail, featuring a diverse range of flavors spanning from savory to sweet.

“Hike, Wine & Dine has become an iconic tradition, as it enables participants to bond with others while basking in the natural beauty our area showcases in the fall. It’s heartwarming to see so many local restaurants come together for this event,” said Dan Pennington, chief philanthropy officer and president of Vail Health Foundation. “Hikers can look forward to satisfying their taste buds and fueling their journey through the beautiful aspens.”

The day caps off at the base of Beaver Creek Mountain with additional food and dessert stations, beverages, and live entertainment by Turntable Review at the Après Hike Party. Attendees will also have the chance to learn more about Shaw Cancer Center and Jack’s Place and the impact these community assets have on cancer patients.

Tickets are available for the full hike, including breakfast, hike, tasting stations, and the Après Party. For those not interested in hiking, Après Hike Party tickets can be purchased separately.

Featured restaurants include Avon Liquor, Beaver Creek Chophouse, Blue Moose Pizza, Dang Sweets, Grouse Mountain Grill, Mountain Fish House, Park Hyatt Beaver Creek, Rimini Gelato, Stoke & Rye, The Osprey, Vail Brewing Co, Vail Mountain Coffee & Tea, and West Vail Liquormart.
