Precourt Healing Center Aids Western Slope Mental Health Crisis

Currently, Grand Junction locals experiencing a severe crisis who are a potential danger to themselves and others must search for appropriate care one to four hours away. Vail Health’s Precourt Healing Center, which opened less than two months after West Springs closed, mitigated a notable portion of the immediate fallout.

The Precourt Healing Center is an inpatient facility that will boast 28 beds by September; however, Vail Health Chief Population Health Officer and Behavioral Health Director Chris Lindley said that only 14 of those beds are available as of publication. According to Lindley, the Precourt Healing Center will likely face fiscal challenges similar to those that strained West Springs, but its position as part of a larger hospital system will allow for the offsetting of any potential deficits.

“This is a core service we’ve brought to this community, that we’re going to continue to provide to this community,” Lindley said. “We’re going to be creative, flexible, and nimble to find ways to ensure its financial sustainability going forward.”
