Dr. Ashley Mason Offers 4 Key Tricks for a Good Night’s Sleep at Event in Beaver Creek

On January 7, clinical psychologist and sleep and heat research expert Dr. Ashley Mason delivered an engaging presentation at the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek. Titled “Optimizing Sleep: Why It Matters,” this event was part of the Vail Health Learning Lab series and co-hosted with the Vail Symposium.

The presentation debunked common sleep myths and highlighted four essentials for better rest: sleep regularity, sleep temperature, sleep architecture, and light exposure. Dr. Mason explained that even simple changes can have a significant impact.

This means going to bed and waking up at the same time each day, keeping your room cool, allowing your body to cycle through all stages of sleep, and limiting exposure to bright light, especially from screens, before bedtime.

“As far as I’m concerned, the biggest changes that we can make are behavioral,” Dr. Mason said. “I have yet to see excellent clinical trial data showing that any sort of sleep aid can address the things I talked about tonight.”
