Shaw Cancer Center’s Treatment Gets Even Better With a New Doctor on Board

Shaw Cancer Center is expanding its treatment offerings by adding Dr. Alex Menter. Dr. Alexander Urquhart has led Vail Health’s cancer care since 2006. After years of searching for another medical oncologist, the center welcomed Menter this October. The two have a long professional history, first working together during their training at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.

“I knew (Menter) would be a good fit from our time working together years ago and our discussions over the years,” Urquhart said. “Over his years in Denver, he developed a respected and excellent reputation and worked in leadership roles at Kaiser. I have always respected his decision-making and care. I would feel absolutely comfortable sending any family member to see him.”

Dr. Menter spent nearly two decades at Kaiser Permanente in Denver, where he treated patients with cancer and blood disorders. Over the past ten years, he has specialized in genitourinary cancers, lung cancer, brain tumors, and blood malignancies. Now, as he begins his work at Shaw Cancer Center, Dr. Menter looks forward to pursuing new opportunities with the team.

“I am just getting started, but my hope is that I can help the rest of the team build a more comprehensive and even more patient-centered program over time,” Menter stated.
