Strides In Cancer Research

In collaboration with the Steadman Philippon Research Institute (SPRI), Vail Health Shaw Cancer Center is currently conducting an FDA-approved clinical trial in breast cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy. Reducing scar tissue formation after surgery and/or radiation is a common goal. The study examines the effects of a drug in reducing scar tissue following radiation treatment for breast cancer. Preliminary data analyses are promising, and there are intentions to expand this research further.

In addition, Shaw Cancer Center and SPRI have launched a separate study to identify biomarkers associated with radiation across various cancer sites, broadening the scope of their investigation beyond breast cancer. This research has the potential to deepen the understanding of the long-term complications resulting from radiation therapy. The findings could lead to the development of targeted interventions to reduce complications and improve patient outcomes. This partnership leverages the combined expertise of both institutions and drives innovative research with the goal of improving cancer care.
