RECONNECTED Recovery Peer Support

Offering Hope Through Community Support

Addiction and addiction recovery are serious challenges for many Eagle County residents. For those seeking help, the road to recovery can sometimes feel overwhelming and isolating.

RECONNECTED (REcovery CONNECTion EDucation), a new nonprofit in Eagle County, has made immense progress to change that. The Recovery Peer Support and Advocacy Program serves individuals with alcoholism or substance use disorder who are interested in or seeking recovery. The program follows up on referrals with 1:1 outreach to provide support, connections, resources, and treatment options.

“Alcoholism and substance abuse are among the most pervasive and challenging behavioral health issues in Eagle County,” says Chris Lindley, Vail Health’s Chief Population Officer. “RECONNECTED offers hope and a model for recovery support in the mountain communities we serve.”

Recovery Through Connection

RECONNECTED’s approach is simple: combat isolation with connection. Through peer support, engaging social events, and comprehensive education, the nonprofit empowers individuals to reclaim their lives from addiction. Referrals come through Your Hope Center, Eagle County Paramedics, Vail Health Behavioral Health, A Way Out, SpeakUp ReachOut, and Eagle County’s Diversion and Probation Offices. RECONNECTED was named the 2024 Small Nonprofit of the Year by the Vail Valley Partnership, and awareness has greatly increased since then.

Comprehensive Support & Accountability

Accountability is incorporated into the program; coaches introduce participants to local 12-step programs, create opportunities to participate in recovery-oriented social events, develop individualized recovery plans, and provide check-ins, coaching, mentoring, support, and even transportation to meetings.

Rob Shearon, founder of RECONNECTED, stresses the importance of a supportive network: “We believe recovery is a journey best navigated with a supportive community. RECONNECTED fosters that sense of belonging and connection that is crucial for long- term success.”
