Expanding Endocrinology Services
A New Home and Increased Staff Enhance Patient Care
Responding to the growing needs of the community, Vail Health and Colorado Mountain Medical expanded endocrinology care and relocated the clinic to the Buck Creek Medical Building in Avon in 2023. The expansion became necessary, with more than 3,000 patients already under their care and a 20% increase in new patient referrals from 2022 to 2023. Generous donations from benefactors supported the hiring of additional staff and made much-needed facility upgrades possible.
Dynamic Space for Evaluation and Treatment
The new space was designed with patient comfort and privacy in mind. A classroom with audiovisual equipment and mountain views offers a tranquil environment for patients to learn about conditions, including diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis, and thyroid disease. Additionally, a spacious procedure room with a state-of-the-art ultrasound machine facilitates thyroid ultrasounds and biopsies.
“Our new ultrasound machine allows for better maneuverability during thyroid procedures,” says Dr. Rebecca Adochio. “It directly connects to Vail Health’s Imaging Department, which improves data sharing and collaboration with other providers.”
New Staff to Address Growing Needs
The endocrinology team now includes two full-time endocrinologists, Dr. Rebecca Adochio and Dr. Darin
Olson; two full-time physician assistants, a registered nurse, and a registered dietitian. Philanthropy supported hiring an administrative assistant for the American Diabetes Association-certified patient education program, Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support, which is part of the Diabetes Center of Excellence. Funds are also being used for staff education and professional development, including training for Certified Bone Densitometry Technicians.
With facility upgrades and staff now working in a beautiful setting, the endocrine team is better equipped to continue delivering exceptional care.
